The era we are living in today is fast paced and hectic. Never before was so much demanded from us! With modern technology comes the idea that we must be available 24//7 to deal with the demands of life.

There have been many changes to modern life that has actually had an impact on our health. Most of us have sedentary jobs which has led us to sitting more and moving less in general. Nowadays we juggle more roles like a profession, parenthood, housekeeper etc. The thought of having to juggle everything on a daily basis has just led to an increase of stress and not knowing how to cope with everything. We feel we need to look in control all the time as if we have it all together all the time. Quilt set in as we realise we cannot give 100% to everything all the time.

What are the effects of this?

The main effect of this is being overwhelmed, and not coping with everyday life as more stress is placed upon us. This can influence our sleep and quality of sleep, making us more tired. These issues combined results in increased anxiety as we don’t feel in control of the pressures of daily life. We worry about the standard of things we do and it actually makes us drop the ball more and make more mistakes. It also means because we are so tired we spend our free time sitting in front of the television rather than doing exercise.

Due to all the pressure and all the things we try to get done we ignore some other essential aspects of life that help up maintain our health, for example eating well. The struggles of daily life has meant in general we don’t take the time to eat nice meals or even cook ourselves. It has become a habit to eat fast and on the go instead sitting and enjoying cooking and eating our food. This had led to a lot of us having poor digestion.

These issues become one big cycle that is hard to break away from. Unfortunately, because of busy schedules caring for ourselves is the first thing we neglect.
